Gatherers project shares and sells non-gender specific experimental utilitarian objects made from all natural materials that are useful and comforting when shuffling between society and wilderness. Every object holds sacred space on this planet. Each piece is made as an individual piece that holds it's own personality and process. With hopes that the user will find the sacred in the every day shuffle, and to let nature whisper softly through my hands- "You are doing all you can do with the power you have to make a positive impact on your own personal journey back to your wild nature."
Jaime Schmidt hand makes each item as a unique form of expression. She has always been an artist, and received her degree in painting from a liberal arts college in Amherst, NY, where she also studied philosophy, world religions, and focused on a non-western perspective of learning. She began creating large scale art installations and experiential work right out of college.
This project is inspired by Jaime's years spent traveling through Chile working on indigenous farms, with Patagonia peasant women, and from spending copious amounts of time alone in the Patagon wilderness where she also created a hidden art installation.
Jaime spent time living in the Pacific Northwest where she was inspired by the large community of wildcrafters, medicine makers, foragers, and farmers. This s where Gatheres was born.
